The Power of Purpose

Whether you’re raising awareness or funds for a cause/charity, young or old, pro-cyclist or not, the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge encourages individuals and companies to open their hearts as they take on thechallenge to cycle 94km. Thousands of people pedal Joburg open roads to make a difference for a cause and charity close to their hearts.

Among these riders, is Jeff Hudson, last year’s Blue Jersey winner. This jersey is given every year, to the individual who raises the most money for their charity. Over the last 3 years, Jeff has cycled the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge to raise funds for his charity; Stepping Stone Hospice and Care Service in Alberton. In 2017, he raised a massive R660 000, adding up to R3million over the three-year period. This is just one of the many phenomenal cyclists who take on extraordinary rides yearly, to help generate funds that will enable 116 organisations to continue the work that they do, which reaches far and wide across South Africa.

It's great to come back to the charity and see where the money you have raised has gone and how they have added to the facilities to cater for more patients.

Yes, it does take commitment, immense training and preparation, but the purpose of it all is what makes itspecial and worth every kilometre. Ride for a Purpose, like Jeff, knowing that your efforts will too, help to feed a child, send a girl child to school, offer support to victims of abuse, improve health services, and more, in some of themost underprivileged communities in the country.

Riding for a purpose is a great motivator. It gives you a reason to wake up in the morning.
