The Coffee Stop: Boost your base miles to make 2019 a standout

Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge Sporting Director, Jenni Green is joined by Performance Through Science coach, Steve Saunders to discuss the impact of inconsistent training ahead of the Cycle Challenge.

Quite a few people alluded to me that had they done a little more work, they may have had some more fun.

Any event that starts off with a couple of short, sharp hills is good for a professional rider but, for the rest of us it's a lot of hard work and it causes a residual load in your system that you have to deal with for the rest of the day.

Want to be better prepared for next year's Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge? Steve suggests getting a head start on your training in December when work starts to slow done so that you're in better shape when cycle time is in short supply.

For a lot of people that are taking part in the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge, they have time in December because work slows down. Joburg pretty much goes to sleep... so, it's a great time to be able to go and get those base miles in.

If you are going away with the family or with a few friends, you could quite easily join up with one of the groups in the area... those will be consistent, not race-like rides. So, very smooth, very controlled type rides - just find the right intensity group for your own level.
